Somethings Missing

Crista Bradshaw - Something Missing - Installation Photography - 2023.jpg

2023, foam ply, mirrors and Giclée print on Enhanced Matte Paper, 158.9 x 20 x 2 cm

Something Missing takes the form of sculptural art, offering an innovative perspective for presenting the evocative photography.

Each panel is composed of imposing wooden slats rising from the ground. Every panel is adorned with a striking segment of the black and white photography, a glimpse into the soul of Wangkumara's heritage. Purposefully spaced apart, these slats create a visible gap, a symbolic rift that lays bare the colonised landscape beyond, a potent visual metaphor.

Through this deliberate artistic representation, the work communicates profound themes of separation, disconnection, absence, and dispossession. Bradshaw draws inspiration from their own personal journey, where the stark contrast between their Aboriginal roots and Western upbringing has left an indelible mark, the sculptures poignantly evoke a sense of longing.

Something Missing invites you to contemplate the impact of history, colonization, and the ever-shifting landscapes of society. It is an invitation to traverse the boundaries between cultures, to recognise the scars of disconnection, and to embrace the beauty that can emerge from bridging the divide.
